Swan Hillman Elementary School Principal Carolyn Kloss will retire this summer after 36 years in education. She has spent the last 17 years at Swan Hillman, where her legacy is centered on fostering a love of reading. Her staff celebrated her Thursday by placing a little free library in front of the school in her honor.

Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity celebrated Tuesday the work of students from East, Jefferson and Guilford high schools who built three homes from the ground up.
The work is part of each school’s construction trades program, teaching students the trade while helping provide a family with an affordable first home.
