Kishwaukee Special Recreation Association to Host Grand Opening
Everyone is invited to join Kishwaukee Special Recreation Association (KSRA) for the grand opening of their Sensory Room. The event is from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6 at the Sycamore Community Center, 480 S. Airport Rd., Sycamore.
The Sensory Room features LED lights, texture walls, bubble machines, a large teddy bear, an interactive floor game cube and more. Come see why the people we serve love spending time in the room. KSRA uses this Sensory Room for the Sensory Imagine Program twice a month and during Camp Adventure in the summer.
KSRA through their Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists (CTRS) will offer private and semi-private therapy sessions for families to register for beginning in 2025. These will be
30-minute sessions using all the pieces in the Sensory Room to help an individual understand and meet their sensory needs. Information for those therapy sessions will be posted in the seasonal brochure and on the KSRA social media.
The Sensory Room can be experienced by people of all ages and abilities. They help improve focus and concentration, develop communication skills, relieve stress, promote self-regulation and increase fine and gross motor skills.
KSRA partners with DeKalb, Flag-Rochelle, Genoa, Sandwich and Sycamore Park Districts. Programs are planned according to the principles of Recreational Therapy (RT). RT uses strategies to address the social, emotional, cognitive, physical and leisure needs of those impacted by illness, injury or disability. Participation in therapeutic recreation programs, like those we offer at KSRA, can promote improvement and prevent decline in these areas for greater independence and well-being.
