Grab your gear and reel in some fun for the whole family at the DeKalb Park District’s annual Fishing Derby! Enjoy a fun-filled morning of fishing from 8:30-11:00 am on Saturday, June 17, at Mason Park/Larson Lake, located at 455 S. Annie Glidden Road.

Individuals of all ages are invited to bring their tackle box, poles, and buckets to win awards and prizes for Longest, Shortest, and Most Caught in youth and adult categories.

“Fishing is great for you mentally and physically, but it is simply a lot of fun,” commented Recreation Supervisor Chrissy Tluczek. “It’s a great way to spend the day with your dad or grandfather while enjoying being outdoors in one of our most beautiful parks.”

The pre-registration fee is $7 per resident and $9 per non-resident, or $10 for the day of on-site registration. Although the Fishing Derby is a rain-or-shine event, please check the Park District Rainout Line for any severe weather cancelations. The Fishing Derby falls on one of the State of Illinois’ free fishing days, so fishing licenses are not required.

If you can’t join the fun on June 17, staff also encourage and allow fishing at Lions Park, Prairie Creek Park, Prairie Park, and Rotary Park. A full list of park amenities and locations can be found on the DeKalb Park District website interactive map.
