The IRS will be postponing the tax filing deadline from April 15th until May 17.
The postponement provides tax preparers time to asses recent changes to the tax code, allows the IRS to continue to work through a backlog of returns from the last filing season, and gives Americans impacted by the pandemic more flexibility in filing their tax returns.
The extension applies only to federal taxes, not state or local income tax.
The IRS will delay the traditional April 15 tax filing due date until May 17 because of the pandemic, according to lawmakers. The move provides added time for both taxpayers and the IRS, which is also helping send out government relief payments. https://t.co/tp1dHTKfxc
