The Boston Marathon has been canceled for the first time in its 124-year-history. The race was originally scheduled for April 20 and pushed back to September 14. The Boston Mayor officially made the decision to cancel it yesterday because the only way it could have been run was by restricting the field to only elite runners. He said: “That’s not the Boston Marathon. The Boston Marathon is for everyone.”

Instead, there will be a VIRTUAL race, where runners who verify that they ran 26.2 miles on their own will receive a finisher’s medal.
