With the COVID pandemic, economic downturn, and racial justice protests there is understandably a lot of anxiety in the community right now. The Living Room is a FREE service offered by the Northwestern Medicine Ben Gordon Center as a safe, comfortable, non-clinical space for individuals experiencing overwhelming symptoms due to life circumstances and is offered as an alternative to our local hospital emergency rooms. This is a free program for any adult, age 18 and older. The goal of the program is to provide a calm and safe environment in which guests can resolve crises without more intensive intervention.

Every individual who comes to The Living Room is greeted by one of our peer recovery support specialists; this group of specialized staff have lived experience with mental illness and/or substance abuse and are ready to provide crisis intervention and support.

The Living Room is open Open: 8 am to 5 pm (evening hours will return soon)
A 24/7 Crisis Hotline is also available at 866-242-0111

Thanks so much to Katherine Lueken, Licensed Clinical Social Worker and manager of Admissions, Crisis Services and the Living Room, for joining us for #GuestDJ to speak more about how this resource could be of use, especially during these very stressful times. Give it a listen below!
