Last night, our very own Shawn Lowe was awarded the Heartland Bank “Heart of the Community” Award. You have to be nominated to win this award. It goes to someone who goes above and beyond for their community and Shawn does just that. Outside of the radio station, he serves on the Chamber Board of Directors, is a Chamber Ambassador, and serves on the Board of Directors for Tails.

In one of the multiple nomination forms filled out for Shawn, one person said: “Shawn has made a huge difference here! Now that 94.9 WDKB is “hyper-local” so many more programs (ex: senior spotlights, pet of the week, 94.9 WDKB Cares, Hometown Hero, and more), free advertisement through guest DJ for local businesses and non-profits, and new events (ex: small business development workshops, St. Patty’s Day.1K, Feed The Need, and more) have come about because of Shawn’s selflessness and relentless work. He has gone above and beyond to help this community survive and thrive. DeKalb would not be where it is, as a community, without his efforts! He’s the Heart of our Community!”

We are so excited for him and proud to have him as not only the “Heart of the Community” but also, the Heart of 94.9 WDKB. Congratulations, Shawn.
