Dropping the final game of the series, the Northern Illinois University Huskies softball team fell to the Bulls of the University at Buffalo. The Huskies fell 9-3 after taking an early lead.

With the loss, the Huskies drop to 13-29 on the season and 6-14 in Mid-American Conference action.

Game Recap

The Bulls got on the board in the top of the first, scoring two runs on a single up the middle to take a 2-0 lead over the Huskies.

Jenna Turner (Marengo, Ill./Marengo) singled to left field to record the first hit of the game for the Huskies. Danielle Stewart (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) hit her sixth home run of the day, a two-run hit to center field to bring home Turner and tie the game at two.

The Huskies defense kept the Bulls off the board in the second, third, and fourth innings, allowing only one hit during the stretch.

Starting the bottom of the fourth, Caitlyn Shumaker (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Bellefontaine) doubled to center field before stealing home to give the Huskies a 3-2 lead over the Bulls.

Buffalo hit a three-run home run in the top of the fifth to take a 5-3 lead over the Huskies as they tallied two other runs in the inning. The Bulls added four runs off five hits in the top of the seventh as they held the Huskies to two hits in the final two innings of play.

The Huskies will travel to Valparaiso on April 23 for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. The Huskies will conclude the road trips of the 2024 season as they take on Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio on April 26-27 in a three-game series.
