Per Media Release:

The holiday season truly is the most wonderful time of the year. A time to reflect and celebrate together, especially after a tumultuous year and a half. Adjusting to the pandemic, safety restrictions, and breaking tradition has been challenging worldwide. The holidays certainly looked different last year and will once again in 2021, but the DeKalb Park District is excited to see the return of such winter traditions as Breakfast with Santa, Holiday House Decorating Contest, and the Polar-palooza Winter Festival.

“We are super excited to bring back some of our beloved annual, winter programming to the DeKalb community. Winter is personally one of my favorite times of the year and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than with some fun-filled events and activities,” commented Recreation Supervisor, Chrissy Tluczek. “From the twinkle of holiday lights to the hearty laugh of Santa to the playful grin of a snowman, there is always something to bring joy on these cold, winter days. We hope that you and your family share in the fun and festivities this winter season!”

DeKalb residents are invited to channel their inner Clark Griswold and sign up for the 2nd Annual DeKalb Holiday House Decorating Contest. Brighten the community by signing up for just $5 and compete in three categories: Best Overall Theme, Light Up the Town, and People’s Choice. The deadline to participate is December 7 and is for DeKalb residents only. All displays will be judged by DeKalb Park District staff on December 8, between 4:00 and 9:00 pm. Best Overall Theme and Light Up the Town category winners will be announced on December 9. If decorating isn’t your thing, help us vote for the People’s Choice category winner! Decoration displays will be judged online through the District Facebook page, December 9 – 16. Staff also encourages voters to hop in their cars and check out the participating houses in person. The image with the most “likes” by 9:00 pm on December 16 wins! The People’s Choice winner will be officially announced on December 17.  All category winners will receive a prize package and yard sign. Addresses of entries will be posted in local media unless otherwise specified at the time of registration. Thank you to our prize sponsor, Mortenson Construction.
