ROSCOE — Warm weather will bring an early start to golf season in the region.

The Forest Preserves of Winnebago County announced on Thursday that Ledges Golf Course, 7111 McCurry Road, will open starting at 10 a.m. Monday for play on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The Forest Preserves said course availability is subject to change based on weather, and golfers should check conditions day-to-day. Carts will be available so long as conditions allow.

While there is a chance for snow showers on Friday, Monday’s weather is expected to feature sunny skies and a high temperature near 60 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

The golf shop will be staffed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Monday and a limited menu of food and beverages will be sold.

Ledges is an 18-hole course built as a private venue in 1966. The Forest Preserves purchased it in 1978. The course is set in a woodland layout with fairway bunkers, sand traps and water hazards featured on 10 holes.

Ledges is one of three courses owned by the Forest Preserves. Opening dates have not been set for Atwood Homestead, 8990 Old River Road, Rockford, or Macktown, 2221 Freeport Road, Rockton.
