94.9 WDKB presented this weeks #HometownHero award to:

Cate Cardella

Thanks to Amanda from DeKalb for nominating Cate. She said:

I’ve never met somebody who is so willing to give of themselves for their family, friends, colleagues, and community. From stepping up to coach her son’s t-ball team when no other adults were able, to volunteering to do garbage pickup with the Trash Squirrels, to collecting household supplies for families of former students when they are relocating or have outgrown what they have. Cate sees a need, and goes into action. Driving near Ellwood House on a hot summer day, you may see Cate with her clippers and a bag of yard waste–just helping make the area beautiful. If you happen to walk into Cate’s first grade classroom, you’ll see magic happening–she is a master teacher who knows how to make her students feel seen and loved, while challenging them to be the best versions of themselves as learners and as humans. Not only is Cate constantly doing things to make our community a better place, she’s teaching her students to do the same. She’s making change happen, and DeKalb is lucky to have such an incredible community member.”
