Per Media Release:

A clean-up day has been organized by the DeKalb Citizens’ Environmental Commission (CEC) for Saturday, October 23, from 10 am to noon. Three additional groups, the Trash Squirrels, the Pathway Committee of the Kiwanis Club, and the Green Paws environmental group of NIU, will join the effort to pick up trash at four major sites.

DeKalb residents will benefit from the effort at both recreational and residential areas:  Kishwaukee Kiwanis bike trail from the NIU lagoon through Hopkins Park; Dresser Road from First St. to Normal Rd., and First St. from Dresser Rd. to Bethany Rd.

The city is providing bags, gloves, and trash pickers. As the Trash Squirrels have been instrumental in implementing many trash collection events, this gathering will introduce newcomers to the group in the hope that more individuals will volunteer their time in the future.

This effort supports Mayor Cohen Barnes’ interest in providing an amenable environment for both businesses and citizens as new development continues to build up the economy of the city.
