Four student-athletes from the Northern Illinois University women’s basketball team have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Team, as announced by CSC on Wednesday. Seniors Brooke Stonebraker (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles) and Jayden Marable (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) were selected as CSC Academic All-America finalsts who will advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America honors.
Stonebraker, an Art Studio-Design & Media Arts major with a 3.779 grade point average, led NIU with 11.4 points and 9.0 rebounds per game this season, finishing the year second in the MAC in rebounding. She was named to the All-MAC Third Team for her first career postseason honor. Stonebraker had nine double-doubles this season. She scored a career-high 20 points twice this season and pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds on Feb. 14 against Western Michigan.
Marable, a Business Administration major with a 3.583 GPA, was second on the team in scoring at 11.3 points per game and led the Huskies with 4.1 assists per game. Along with Stonebraker, Marable started all 31 games this year and scored in double figures 19 times with a career-high 26 points in NIU’s win over Georgia Southern on Feb. 10. This is Marable’s second straight selection to the Academic All-District Team. She was an Honorable Mention All-MAC honoree this season.
Sidney McCrea (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Prairie) and Tara Stauffacher (Columbus, Wis./Wisconsin) were also selected to the Academic All-District Team. McCrea, a redshirt-junior with a 3.971 GPA in Biomedical Engineering, was the Huskies’ top three-point shooter in 2023-24 at 37.6 percent and made 59 threes. She averaged 9.4 points per game. Stauffacher averaged 6.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per game while playing in all 31 games this season.
To be eligible for Academic All-District honors a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average. Student-Athletes must compete in 90 percent of their team’s games or start in at least 66 percent of games.
