Paradise and the rekindling of lost love can be found this spring in DeKalb. Opening on the fictional Greek Island of Kalokairi on May 30th and running through June 9th, the romantic musical comedy Mamma Mia! will take you miles away from our cool spring, set your feet a-dancing and make you sing in harmony.
Mamma Mia! is the modern jukebox musical inspired by and featuring the songs of Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus of the 1970’s pop group ABBA. The book was written by British playwright Catherine Johnson based on an original concept by producer Judy Craymer. The plot revolves around a young bride to be, Sophie, who has grown up not knowing her father or who he is but puts a plan into motion in the hope she can change that.
Mamma Mia! is directed by Amanda Smothers, who last directed The Game’s Afoot in 2016. Vocal direction is by Terri Crain Goodman with pit director Christine Monteiro. The cast features newcomers Julie Martin as Donna and Ryan Marcotte as Sam. Also featured are Blythe Schwaller (Lend Me A Tenor), Chase McIntoush (The Little Mermaid), Patrick Deering (Deathtrap), Jeff Hall (Jekyll & Hyde), Dorcas Keating (The Little Mermaid), and Allison Scigalski (The Little Mermaid).
Rounding out the cast are Alison Anderson, Celine Bennetts, Antoinette Binder, Zack Eckhardt, Leigh Foulk, Sabrina Helton, Brittani Jackson, Joel Ledbetter, John Linderoth, Emmaline Linton, Jacob Morton, Andrew Russo, Andy Small, James Small. The backstage ensemble Shannon Becker, Bryan Fowler, Scotty Fleetwood, Terri Crain Goodman, Keely Haag, Cheri Heinz, Cortney Jo Newby, and Tessa Poffenberger.
Mamma Mia! combines the story-telling magic of ABBA’s timeless songs into an enchanting tale of love, laughter and friendship. A mother, her daughter and three possible dads to walk the bride down the aisle.
Performances for Mamma Mia! are May 30th through June 1st and June 6th through June 8th with a curtain time of 7:30, along with Sunday matinees on June 2nd and June 9th with a curtain time of 2:00. Tickets are $20 each or $18 for seniors and children age 13 and under.
