David Coit (Columbus, N.J./Atlantic Cape CC) and Keshawn Williams (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) both earned Preseason All-MAC honors from The Almanac. Coit was named to the Preseason All-MAC First Team while Williams received Preseason All-MAC Second Team recognition.

Coit, a Third Team All-MAC and Second Team All-District honoree a season ago, averaged 15.5 points per game last year, 11th-best in the conference. He increased his scoring output to 16.9 points per game in conference play, eighth-best in the MAC, while also averaging 3.3 assists per game, 13th in the conference, and 1.3 steals per contest, 12th-most in the league. Coit ranked second in the MAC in free throw shooting in conference play at 89.7 percent and was also 15th in three-point percentage, shooting 39.5 percent.

Williams averaged 17.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists through 15 games last season before missing the remainder of the year due to injury. At the time of his injury, Williams was the only player in the MAC ranked in the top 25 in scoring (fifth), rebounding (23rd), assists (22nd), field goal percentage (12th), free throw percentage (17th) and three-point percentage (22nd). During the 2021-22 season, Williams earned All-MAC honorable mention recognition as he averaged 17.6 points per game during league play, seventh-best in the MAC.

The Almanac picked the Huskies to finish fifth in the MAC and has NIU listed as its sleeper team in an anonymous poll of the league’s coaches.

NIU was also picked to finish by the Blue Ribbon Yearbook which lists the Huskies backcourt as the third-best in the MAC. Practice for the 2023-24 season officially gets underway next week.
