Chelby Koker (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) was named to the Preseason All-Mid-American Conference First Team on Thursday as the league released its preseason coaches’ poll.

This is the second consecutive season Koker has been named to a preseason All-MAC team. The fifth-year guard was named to the preseason All-MAC Second Team last year and was placed on the postseason Second Team after averaging 15.4 points and a team-high 3.4 assists per game. Koker was third in the MAC in three-point percentage in the 2022-23 season at 37.6 percent.

The fifth-year guard had eight games of over 20 points last season. She scored a season-high 27 points in the Huskies’ 88-63 win over Akron on Feb. 8 at the NIU Convocation Center, making 7-of-9 three-point attempts. She scored her 1,500th career point against Georgia Southern in the Women’s Basketball Invitational on March 17.

NIU was picked to finish fifth in the MAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, five points behind Bowling Green. Toledo garnered 11 of the 12 first-place votes to top the poll, followed by Ball State and Kent State.

The Huskies host Ripon College on Saturday, Nov. 4 in exhibition action. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. and all tickets are $5.

NIU opens its 2023-24 season on the road next Thursday, Nov. 9 at Arkansas State in the MAC-Sun Belt Challenge. The Huskies’ home opener is on Tuesday, Nov. 21 against Lindenwood at 6 p.m.

Huskie basketball season tickets are on sale now. Women’s basketball season tickets start at $35 for general admission seats and $50 for reserved tickets. NIU faculty and staff, members of the NIU Alumni Association or Varsity Club and senior citizens can purchase women’s basketball season tickets for $40.

The new “Run It Back With The Pack” plan is also on sale. In this plan, when the Huskies win at home, you win and have the chance to “Run it Back” at the next home game. Fans who purchase a “Run It Back with the Pack” ticket, which for women’s basketball begins with Saturday’s exhibition, will receive a free ticket for the next women’s basketball non-conference game following each victory. Both the men’s and women’s basketball “Run It Back with the Pack” ticket packages could provide admission to as many as six games. This plan is $15 for a women’s basketball general admission ticket.
