More sporting events are reacting to the coronavirus situation:

The Kentucky Derby will be postponed until the first Saturday in September. It is the first time the Derby will not be held on the first Saturday in May since 1945

NASCAR postponed races in its national circuits through May 3

The WWE is not canceling WrestleMania, but they have decided to move it to a different location and host their biggest event without fans. WrestleMania is scheduled for April 5th.

Major League Baseball’s Opening Day will be delayed until at least mid-May.

Some GOOD NEWS:

Yesterday in France, the company that makes fragrances for brands like Dior and Louis Vuitton stopped making perfume and started making hand sanitizer. They’ll be giving it out to hospitals for free.

Something called the “Kindness Postcard” has been making the rounds on social media. It’s a card you can print out and put in your neighbors’ mailboxes, in case they need assistance. You just list your name and phone number. And it says to call if they need groceries, supplies, or even just someone to talk to.

Universal Pictures is planning to make a bunch of their new movies available at home WAY earlier than scheduled. It’s current movies in cinematic release, like The Invisible Man, The Hunt, and Emma, will be available on demand as early as this Friday. Even Trolls World Tour which is scheduled to premiere in theaters on April 10th will now be available at home the same day. Warner Bros is reportedly working to speed up the release of Birds of Prey. The normal theatrical window is usually around 90 days, but with so many theaters limiting capacity or closing entirely, studios are having to pivot and find ways to get their entertainment out.

In non coronavirus related news:

Tom Brady announced on social media this morning that he will not be returning to the Patriots. In a long Twitter note titled FOREVER A PATRIOT he wrote: “I don’t know what my football future holds but it is time for me to open a new stage for my life and career.”

The “winners” of the Golden Raspberry Awards were announced yesterday. Not that anyone wants to win these awards since it recognizes the WORST films of the year. “Cats” was the big winner, with six wins including Worst Picture. Worst Actor went to John Travolta for “The Fanatic” and “Trading Paint”. Worst Actress was Hilary Duff for “The Haunting of Sharon Tate.” Eddie Murphy took home the Razzie Redeemer Award for “Dolemite Is My Name”.

 

Don’t forget to VOTE! Florida, Arizona and Illinois hold primary elections today. Ohio was supposed to join them, but Gov. Mike DeWine announced late last night that polls will be closed in the state today due to public health concerns. Louisiana, Georgia and Kentucky have also postponed their primaries.
