OH MY DRAMA! Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced yesterday that they are stepping away from their duties as senior members of the British royal family and will split their time between the UK and North America. They dropped their surprise statement on Instagram. It’s a lengthy post that talks about working toward becoming “financially independent” and launching a new charitable entity. It’s an unprecedented move and it’s causing quite a stir within the royal family. Harry and Meghan reportedly did not consult the Queen before making the announcement, even though she technically has to sign off on their semi-split from their royal duties.

Kensington Palace released a response statement saying:

“Discussions with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage. We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through.”

Guys, I CAN NOT WAIT for The Crown to get to present day already so I can see how they handle all this drama! Plus, they could just cast Meghan to play herself.

The Nanny is being adapted into a Broadway musical! Fran Drescher is writing the book, while the music is being written by Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s Rachel Bloom.

In more musical news, ABC has revealed what their next live musical will be: Young Frankenstein – an adaptation of the 1974 Mel Brooks movie, and the more recent Broadway version which he composed. Mel is still around. He’s 93, and he’s actually serving as a producer of the live TV production.

ABC also announced another new Bachelor spin-off. It’ll be called The Bachelor: Listen to Your Heart. 20 single men and women will sing covers of songs individually and as couples and then they’ll “explore relationships, while living together and going on dates with a musical flair.” It sounds like a joke, but nope. There’s even a premiere date: April 13

OK, let’s pivot to something that doesn’t make me cringe. Like, LIZZO! She’s on tour in Australia and yesterday she took a break from performing to help those affected by the deadly wildfires. Lizzo volunteered at Foodbank Victoria and packed boxes of emergency food and water that is being delivered to victims of the fires.

It’s official – the Oscars are choosing to go without a host again this year. The Academy confirmed the decision yesterday on Twitter. It’s not a big surprise, especially since it went so well for them last year. They just rallied a bunch of star power to cover the in-between entertainment, plus it didn’t hurt having Tina, Amy, and Maya kick off the show with a “we’re not hosts” monologue. Last year’s ceremony was about 30 minutes shorter and viewership rose by about 12%
