The DeKalb Park District is always seeking new ways to enjoy community park space and staff is excited to partner with Byers Brewing Company and Phenix Disc Golf Club on Saturday, July 16, to offer a new outdoor event experience with the Throwback at the Park: Craft Beer & Disc Golf Festival.

This fun-filled day in the park has a lot to offer to a variety of interest groups. A temporary disc golf course will be set up at Hopkins Park, located at 1403 Sycamore Road, to begin the day at 9:00 am with a shotgun start, singles-style disc golf tournament. The $20 resident and $25 non-resident fees include the tournament, as well as a souvenir disc. Spectators are welcome, especially to come test out the family disc golf area or take part in some side games.

If disc golf isn’t your thing, starting at noon, several local breweries, food trucks, and musicians will be featured in the ‘craft beer’ portion of the festival. Byers Brewing Company, Jonomac Orchard, WerkForce, Tangled Roots, D and G, Art History, Obscurity, Hairy Cow, and the Forge all will have libations on-site for tasting from noon – 3:00 pm. The $39 resident or $49 non-resident fee will get you (12) twelve tasters, as well as a souvenir glass, but cash beer sales will be available throughout the entire event until 4:30 pm.

And whether you’re a craft beer connoisseur or not, the public is invited to come to enjoy the live music lineup. Classic rock-based cover band, Within Four Days, will play at 11:30 am; Mark Walters at 1:00 pm; and headlining band, Rockin’ Moxie at 3:00 pm. The local artists can be enjoyed alongside tasty treats courtesy of Jah Love Jamaican Food and Uncle Cam’s Sandwiches.

If you love both disc golf and local craft beer, a combo pass is available for residents for $57 and $71 for non-residents.
