This Week in Huskie Athletics Northern Illinois university will have eight teams in action. NIU baseball will travel to take on Purdue on Tuesday before a weekend series in DeKalb against Ohio. NIU Softball will head to Muncie, Ind. for a Tuesday double header against Ball State before traveling to Bowling Green for three games across Saturday and Sunday. NIU men’s golf will host the Kishwaukee Intercollegiate at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Kishwaukee Country Club. NIU women’s golf will travel to play in the Boilermaker Spring Classic hosted by Purdue. NIU women’s tennis will take on Bowling Grene on Friday before heading home to host WMU on Sunday. NIU men’s tennis will host Buffalo on Thursday and Toledo on Saturday. NIU Track and Field will compete in the Stanford Invitational and the Chicagoland Championship on Friday and Saturday. NIU gymnastics will send Kiera O’Shea to the NCAA Regionals in Tuscaloosa, Ala. to compete on vault. O’Shea will compete shortly after 1 p.m. on Friday.

The NIU baseball team heads back to the Hoosier State on Tuesday to take on Purdue at 4 p.m. CT. The game got moved up from Wednesday due to the chance of inclement weather. The Huskies took one out of four games at Butler this past weekend despite scoring 41 runs in the series. On Sunday, juniors Logan Gregorio and Gavin Baldwin both hit their 10th home runs of the season. They are the only set of MAC teammates to have double-digit home runs so far this season and are fourth and fifth in the league in RBI with 34 and 33 respectively. NIU hosts Ohio this weekend at Ralph McKinzie Field at Walt & Janice Owens Park. The Huskies won two out of three at Ohio last season. The Northern Illinois University Huskies softball team starts the week off as they take on the Cardinals of Ball State in Muncie, Indiana on April 1. The Huskies and Cardinals have met 90 times in program history ahead of Tuesday’s matchup with the Huskies holding a 51-39 series record. The Huskies and Cardinals split the series meeting last year. NIU won 9-2 in the first game before Ball State claimed an 11-7 win in the second game.
Ending this week at home, NIU welcomes Bowling Green to Mary M. Bell Field and DeKalb. The Huskies and Falcons will meet for the 61st time as NIU holds a 33-28 series lead. In last season’s meetings, the Huskies went 2-1 against the Falcons as Danielle Stewart pitched her first career no-hitter while also claiming a home run in the game.
Men’s Golf
Saturday, April 5 at Kishwaukee Intercollegiate, 9 a.m. – Live Scoring
NIU men’s golf returns to the Midwest to host the Kishwaukee Intercollegiate at Kishwaukee Country Club in DeKalb on Saturday. The 36-hole event will feature the Huskies along with Illinois State, Central Michigan, Chicago State, Aurora University, Highland Community College and Southwestern Community College. The Huskies played their first three tournaments of the spring on the west coast, taking a second place at the Lake Las Vegas Invitational to start the unofficial second half. NIU was last in action at the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate March 17-18 with senior Ben Sluzas finishing in the top-40. A full preview will be available on NIUHuskies.com later this week.
Women’s Golf
Sunday, April 6 – Monday, April 7 at Boilermaker Spring Classic
The Northern Illinois University women’s golf team returns to action as they are set to compete at the Boilermaker Spring Classic. The Huskies will play the par-72, 6,212-yard course over two-days.
The Huskies were most recently in action at the Valspar Augusta Invitational in Georgia as Mia Raines led the Huskies in the clubhouse. The tournament, originally set for 54 holes, was shortened to 36 due to inclement weather. The Huskies carded a team score of 630 in a field that included Michigan, Michigan State, Texas Tech, and tournament leaders, Georgia Southern.
Women’s Tennis
Friday, April 4 at Bowling Green, 12 p.m. –
Sunday, April 6 vs WMU, 1 p.m. –
NIU won three matches last week, including 4-3 and 5-2 victories over Toledo and Ball State, respectively, to move into first place in the Mid-American Conference West Division with a 4-1 MAC record. The Huskies’ 18 wins on the season are the most for the program in 40 years, since the 1984-85 team won a school-record 20 dual matches.
The Huskies take on a pair of MAC opponents this week with just five duals remaining on the 2025 slate as NIU travels to Bowling Green for a Friday match against the Falcons before returning home to take on Western Michigan Sunday.
Junior Nataly Ninova, who clinched the NIU win over Ball State on Sunday, has won 17 of her 20 singles matches on the season to lead the team in wins, while freshman Lucia Yecora is 5-0 in the MAC and has dropped just one match in 15 decisions this year.
Jenna Horne and Reagan Welch have been NIU’s strongest doubles pair with a 13-3 record on the season after winning all three of their matches over the weekend.
Men’s Tennis
Thursday, April 3 vs Buffalo, 1 p.m. –
Saturday, April 5 vs Toledo, 1 p.m. –
NIU Men’s Tennis will be back home for action on Thursday and Saturday. The Huskies will play host to Buffalo and Toledo. NIU will host Buffalo on Thursday before turning their attention to the Rockets on Saturday.
Last week the Huskies fell to UIC in their lone matchup. The Huskies were highlighted by Pratyaksh and Chiao Bo Suo Nan who earned a win at No.3 doubles.
Track and Field

The NIU Track and Field will send their team to two separate competitions this weekend. Many athletes will be heading for competition against Stanford with the rest of the team traveling to Elmhurst for the Chicagoland Championship.
At the Redbird Challenge this past weekend the Huskies were highlighted with wins from Malia Watkins in the 100-meter dash and Kamiya Dendy in the high jump. The Huskies took home first and second in the high jump as Jasmin Raes earned second place.
Gymnastics
Friday, April 4 at NCAA Regionals (Tuscaloosa, Ala.), 1 p.m. – Kiera O’Shea
Kiera O’Shea will be representing NIU at the NCAA Regionals in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Friday as she earned a place in the NCAA Regionals for the second straight season. O’Shea’s qualification marks 11 straight seasons the Huskies have been represented in the NCAA Regionals. O’Shea was named to the All-MAC first team on vault this season by posting the highest NQS in the MAC. O’Shea will compete with the Crimson Tide in the first rotation.
