This Week in Huskie Athletics Northern Illinois University will have nine teams in action. NIU men’s basketball will take a road trip to Oxford, Ohio to face Miami on Tuesday before coming home on Saturday against WMU. NIU women’s basketball will take on Kent State on the road on Wednesday and return home in game one of Saturday’s double header against Bowling Green. NIU baseball will face off against SIUE in a four game weekend series in Edwardsville this weekend. NIU softball will take on Lindenwood on Monday, Feb. 24 in a double header. NIU men’s tennis hosts Chicago State at 2 p.m. on Friday. NIU women’s tennis will host Bradley and Cornell on Saturday, March 1. NIU track and field will travel to Ypsilanti, Mich. for the MAC Indoor Championships. NIU men’s golf is in Henderson. Nev. for the Lake Las Vegas Invitational Monday through Wednesday. NIU women’s golf is in Phoenix, Ariz. for the GCU Invitational.

NIU opens the week with a trip to Miami on Tuesday night before the Huskies return home to host Western Michigan as part of a Huskie basketball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
Last time out against Eastern Michigan, the Huskies set a new school record as they made 15 three-pointers against the Eagles. James Dent Jr. and Tsvet Sotirov each made five threes in the contest. NIU has also set a new single season record for triples this year as the Huskies have made 253 threes, bettering the previous record of 238 set in 2015-16. Dent leads NIU with 63 three-point field goals this season.

The NIU women’s basketball team will head on the road to Kent State on Wednesday before hosting Bowling Green in game one of NIU’s double header on Saturday.
Last week the Huskies dropped close games to Ohio and Eastern Michigan. Alecia Doyle scored 19 points in Saturday’s game against the Eagles while Chelby Koker scored 18.
The Huskies took down Kent State in DeKalb on Feb. 26 and lost on the road to Bowling Green on Saturday, Jan. 18.
Baseball

The Huskies go back on the road this weekend for a four-game series at SIUE. NIU took one out of three games against Southeast Missouri State last weekend, winning 16-4 last Friday. Redshirt-Junior pitcher Adam Brouwer threw five shutout innings in that win, allowing four hits and four walks with four strikeouts. He is one of two starting pitchers in the MAC with a 0.00 ERA through the first two weekends. SIUE is 2-4 on the year after being swept at Dallas Baptist over the weekend.
Softball
Monday, Feb. 24 at Lindenwood (DH) 2 p.m./4 p.m. – Live Stats
The Huskie softball team continue action in St. Charles, Missouri as they play a doubleheader against Lindenwood on Monday, February 24. The Huskies are finishing a four-game series in St. Charles after the originally schedule Bellarmine Tournament was canceled due to weather.
In games on February 23, the Huskies split action against Green Bay and St. Louis. The Huskies posted their second shutout of the season, defeating Green Bay 2-0 on runs from Ally Rodriguez and Madison Mathews. The Huskies would fall 6-0 to St. Louis as Jenna Turner and Brianna Pechman had the lone hits of the game for the Huskies.
Gymnastics
Sunday, March 2 at Ball State, 12 p.m.
The Northern Illinois University gymnastics team will head to Ball State on Sunday. The Huskies took on Western Michigan and Wisconsin-Whitewater and earned second place while scoring a season high of 194.350. Kiera O’Shea scored a season high of 9.900 on vault and earned her sixth straight win.
Men’s Tennis
Friday, Feb. 28 vs Chicago State, 2 p.m.
The NIU men’s tennis team will take on Chicago State as the Huskies return to the Nelson Tennis Center on Friday. Last week the Huskies went to Chicago for three duals. NIU dropped matchups with DePaul and Belmont on Friday but bounced back on Saturday with a comeback win over Eastern Kentucky. Iker Gaztambide Arrastia went 2-1 on the weekend and was able to win the third set in his match to clinch the dual.
Women’s Tennis

The Huskies bring a five-match winning streak into Saturday’s action at the Nelson Tennis Center after defeating South Dakota (4-3) and Sioux Falls (7-0) last Friday in South Dakota. NIU is now 10-2 on the season with three non-conference matches remaining before the start of conference play on March 16.
NIU has won three straight matches over Bradley over the last three seasons, including a 4-0 win in Peoria last season. The Braves are 1-6 in dual matches so far this season while Cornell is 5-2 on the year.
Junior Nataly Ninova clinched the Huskies’ win over South Dakota as NIU had to come back after losing the doubles point to win four of six singles matches. Ninova won the first set tiebreaker over USD’s Sorcha Caves, 7-5, and took the second set, 6-4. She also scored a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sydney Osburn of Sioux Falls in the second match of the day to improve to 10-1 in singles on the year. Freshman Lucia Yecora remained undefeated in singles with her win at South Dakota which put the Huskies’ first point on the board.
Track and Field
Friday, Feb. 28 – Saturday, March 1 at MAC Indoor Championships (Ypsilanti, Mich.)
The NIU women’s track and field team heads to Ypsilanti, Mich., this weekend for the MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at Eastern Michigan’s Bowen Field House. Competition is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. CT on Friday with the heptathlon and will resume on Saturday at 9 a.m. CT with the shot put.
NIU heads into this weekend’s conference championship with three high jumpers ranked in the top four in the conference, as Kamiya Dendy is ranked first, Jasmijn Raes is ranked third and Arianna Calloway is tied for fourth. In the long jump, Precious Umukoro goes into the meet ranked third in the MAC, she is also ranked seventh in the triple jump. On the track, Sadiya Shamsid-Deen is 10th in the conference in the 400 meters.
Men’s Golf
Monday, Feb. 24 – Wednesday, Feb. 26 at Lake Las Vegas Invitational (Henderson, Nev.) – Live Scoring
The NIU men’s golf team starts its spring slate Monday at the Lake Las Vegas Invitational, hosted by Arkansas State at Reflection Bay Golf Club. The Huskies finished the fall with a pair of top-10 finishes, including winning the Badger Invitational at Wisconsin. Senior Felix Krammer was named MAC Golfer of the Week after NIU’s win at Wisconsin. He leads NIU in scoring average this season at 72.267. The Huskies took 12th place in this event last season.
Women’s Golf
Tuesday, Feb. 25 – Wednesday, Feb. 26 at Grand Canyon Invitational (Phoenix, Ariz.) – Live Scoring
The Huskie women’s golf team continues spring action as they compete at the GCU Invitational on February 25-26. The Huskies will play the par-72 course through three rounds beginning at 9 a.m. CT.
The Huskies were most recently in action at the BGSU Women’s Intercollegiate as they finished in a tie for fifth. Alexa Ouellet took third at the tournament, her highest finish of the season, and earned MAC Golfer of the Week honors for her performance.
