This Week in Huskie Athletics Northern Illinois University will have five teams in action. NIU men’s basketball hosts Benedictine on Tuesday before a road trip to take on Northern Iowa on Saturday. NIU women’s basketball will return to action as they head to take on Missouri at 2 p.m. on Saturday. NIU wrestling continues their season with the Cougar Clash hosted by SIUE. NIU Track & Field will head to South Bend, Ind. to compete in the Blue-Gold invite on Friday. NIU Gymnastics will host their annual Red/Black intra-squad exhibition meet in Victor E. Court at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

A pair of games await the Huskie men’s basketball team this week as it takes on Benedictine at home on Tuesday before heading to Northern Iowa on Saturday. Quentin Jones leads the Huskies in scoring at 14.9 points per contest, eighth best in the Mid-American Conference. Over the last six games, Jones is averaging 16.2 points per game.

James Dent Jr. is tied for 16th in the MAC in scoring at 13.1 points per game. Dent is also tied for 12th in rebounds at 6.0 boards per contest, 15th in assists at 2.8 per game and tied for 12th in three-point percentage at 41.7 percent. Women’s Basketball

Saturday, Dec. 7: at Missouri, 2 p.m. – SEC Network+ |   Live Audio  | Live Stats

 The Northern Illinois University women’s basketball team will return from their Thanksgiving break as they head to take on SEC opponent Missouri. The Huskies hold a 3-3 record overall and fell in a close matchup to UIC by a score of 69-66 in their last game. Chelby Koker led NIU with 16 points in the game while Brooke Blumenfeld added 12.

The Huskies won their previous two matchups against Chicago State and Milwaukee on the road before the UIC game.

Missouri holds a 7-3 record and has won their last two times out. The Tigers defeated Jacksonville State by a score of 79-45 on Sunday, Dec. 1. The Tigers will also play host to SMU on Thursday, Dec. 5 before the Huskies come to town.

 

Wrestling

Dec. 7 | Cougar Clash | Edwardsville, IL

The Northern Illinois University wrestling program returns to the mat as they compete at the SIUE Cougar Clash on December 7. Action is set to begin at 10 a.m. on the SIUE campus.

The Huskies were last in action on November 22 as they defeated Rider in a 20-19 battle inside the NIU Convocation Center win. The Huskies won the first three bouts, including a pair of major decisions from Blake West and Markel Baker before dropping the next five matches. A late pin by Spencer Mooberry brought NIU within two as Jacob Christensen secured the Huskies first win over Rider and first dual win of the season.

Track and Field

Friday, December 6: at Blue-Gold Invite (South Bend, Ind.), 12 p.m. – Live Results

The Huskie women’s track and field team begins the indoor portion of its schedule on Friday (Dec. 6) as NIU travels to South Bend, Ind., for Notre Dame’s Blue-Gold Invite. The meet is slated to begin at 12 p.m. CT with field events, the first event on track, the 60-meter hurdles, is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. CT.

Last season, Arianna Calloway set a school record at the meet as she cleared 1.80 meters (5-10.75) in the high jump in her collegiate debut.

 

Gymnastics

Sunday, Dec. 8: Gymnastics Red/Black Exhibition Meet (Victor E Court)

NIU Gymnastics hosts their annual Red Black Exhibition Meet on Sunday inside Victor E. Court. NIU returns much of their 2024 squad and brings in five freshmen to the 2025 team. The Red/Black Exhibition will be fans’ first chance to see the Huskies in action before the regular season begins. The Huskies 2025 campaign will start Friday, Jan. 10 at Florida. The Huskies will host four home meets in 2025 with the first being against Illinois State on Friday, Jan. 24.

Kiera O’Shea qualified for NCAA Regionals on Vault in 2024 and will look to repeat that success in 2025.
