This Week in Huskie Athletics Northern Illinois University will have four teams in action. After clinching bowl eligibility in a 29-16 win over Akron last week NIU football returns to action on Tuesday against Miami. NIU men’s basketball will host Elon on at 6 p.m. on Wednesday before heading to Chicago to take on DePaul on Saturday. NIU women’s basketball will travel to Chicago State on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and then take on Milwaukee in a 12 p.m. showdown on Sunday. NIU wrestling opens MAC duals as the Huskies host Rider inside Victor E. Court at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Football

NIU Football goes on the road for the final time in the regular season on Tuesday to take on the Miami RedHawks. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. with the game telecast on ESPN. The Huskies secured bowl eligibility last week with its 29-16 win over Akron at Huskie Stadium. NIU rushed for 295 yards as both Telly Johnson Jr. and Gavin Williams each had over 100 yards. The NIU defense allowed a season-low 50 rushing yards and had four sacks, two of them by senior defensive end Raishein Thomas. The Huskies and RedHawks will play for the Mallory Cup on Tuesday night, created to honor the late Bill Mallory who coached both NIU and Miami to MAC championships in his career. Men’s Basketball

The NIU men’s basketball team returns home on Wednesday when the Huskies host Elon. The Huskies are a perfect 2-0 at home this season, including a 79-66 victory over Monmouth last Tuesday (Nov. 12). Quentin Jones tied a career-high with 22 points against the Hawks, he followed that up with a game-high 19 points last time out at Bradley (Nov. 16) as he currently leads the Huskies in scoring at 15.8 points per game.

Following Wednesday’s contest, the Huskies travel to Chicago to meet DePaul on Saturday afternoon. Last season, the Huskies scored an 89-79 victory over the Blue Demons at Wintrust Arena, NIU’s first win over DePaul since 2005.

Women’s Basketball

NIU women’s basketball will compete on the road twice this week.  After a 10-day break the Huskies will take on Chicago State on Wednesday before heading to take on Milwaukee on Sunday.

The Huskies were last in action on Wednesday, Nov. 20 against St. Thomas and were defeated in a competitive matchup 75-68. Brooke Blumenfeld scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the game. Alecia Doyle scored 15 in the game after scoring 14 against Iowa on Nov. 6.

 

Wrestling

Friday, Nov. 22: vs Rider, 7 p.m. – ESPN+ | TrackWrestling

The Huskies open their dual season at home, hosting Rider University on Friday night inside Victor E. Court. It will be a match-up of the MAC East (Rider) and MAC West (NIU) champions from a season ago. Fans are encouraged to “Wear Red” for the red out.

The Huskies were last in action on November 16 as they traveled to Northwestern for the dual opener, falling 29-8. Markel Baker (133 pounds) and Jacob Christensen (285 pounds) earned major decision victories for the Huskies in the dual. NIU opened the 2024-25 season at the Michigan State Open, which saw nine Huskies place including first place finishes from Charles Curtis and Ian Smith.
