This Week in Huskie Athletics NIU will have three teams in action. Softball hosts five games this week. Softball opens their week on Tuesday with a double header against Ball State before a weekend series against Miami. Baseball travels to Milwaukee on Wednesday before hosting Ball State this weekend for three games. Track and Field travels Saturday to the University of Illinois for the Fighting Illini Tune Up.

The Huskies return home for the final week of the regular season, hosting Ball State and Miami (OH). The Huskies will take on Ball State on April 30 in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. at Mary M. Bell Field. Tuesday’s (April 30) game will be a faculty and staff appreciation day for the Huskies.
The Huskies will host Miami for a three-game series starting on May 4 with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday’s doubleheader day is Cal’s Angels with a home run derby following the second game of the day. For more information, please follow NIU Softball on Twitter. Sunday, May 5 will be the home finale for the Huskies at 12 p.m. for Bark in the Park against Miami.
The Huskies had a successful last weekend on the road, as Danielle Stewart recorded her first career no-hitter on April 26 in a 7-0 victory for the Huskies. Stewart also recorded her seventh home run of the season in the victory. Jenna Turner tied the school record for most runs in a single game on April 27 in the second game against Bowling Green. Turner scored four runs as Alana Powell recorded 5 RBIs in the game.

The NIU baseball heads up to Milwaukee Wednesday for a midweek game before hosting Ball State this weekend at Ralph McKinzie Field at Walt and Janice Owens Park. The Huskies took two out of three games at Central Michigan this weekend, winning their first series against the Chippewas since 2016. Freshman Ty Brachbill threw a complete game in NIU’s 2-1 win last Friday, becoming the first Huskie freshman to throw a complete game in six years. He allowed one unearned run on four hits with three walks and six strikeouts. NIU won both games against Milwaukee last season, winning 3-2 at Milwaukee and 12-1 in DeKalb. The Huskies enter the weekend 9-12 in the MAC, 2.5 games back of Toledo for the sixth and final MAC Tournament berth. Ball State is tied for fourth in the MAC with Kent State at 12-9.
Track and Field
Saturday, May 4 at Fighting Illini Tune Up (Urbana/Champaign, Ill.)
The last weekend of regular season competition prior to the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships is this week as the Huskies will travel to Champaign, Ill. to compete in the Fighting Illini Tune Up at the University of Illinois. Field events will begin at 11 a.m. with action on track starting at 12 p.m. with the steeplechase.
NIU had four top-10 finishes this past weekend at the 114th Drake Relays, with the sprint medley relay team of Malia Watkins, Christine Irving, Talayssia Sanders and Emma Vorpagel taking fifth. Arianna Calloway claimed seventh in the championship flight of the high jump while Kendal Only was eighth in the triple jump and Jazmyn Smith with ninth in the long jump. Calloway is currently ranked fourth in the MAC in the high jump while Only is ranked ninth in the triple jump.
