Five Huskie teams compete both at home and on the road this week. Women’s and men’s soccer kick things off Thursday with road matches versus Ohio and Chicago State, respectively. Friday and Saturday, women’s tennis competes in the Warhawk Fall Invitational while Volleyball takes on Bowling Green and Miami (OH) at home. Football hosts Toledo Saturday and the soccer’s conclude the week with a pair of home games.

Football

NIU Football is back home at Huskie Stadium on Saturday, facing Toledo for the 115th Homecoming. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. Sophomore running back Harrison Waylee rushed for a career-high 230 yards and three touchdowns in last week’s overtime game at Ball State. He is the fourth Huskie to have three rushing touchdowns in a single game in the last four years. The Huskies, as a team, rushed for a season-high 332 yards. NIU won last season’s meeting at Toledo 22-20 on a John Richardson field goal in the final minute of regulation. Volleyball

Two Mid-American Conference matches are on deck for the Huskies this week after going 2-1 last week against Western Michigan and Buffalo. NIU won a five-set thriller versus the Broncos in front of a ruckus crowd at Victor E. Court before splitting a pair of road matches against the Bulls over the weekend. Ella Mihacevich and Sammi Lockwood were tabbed MAC West Players of the Week for their efforts in the wins. The Huskies now turn their attention to two primetime matches against Bowling Green and Miami (OH) this Friday and Saturday evening. NIU squares off against Bowling Green Friday at 6 p.m. before Miami (OH) comes to Victor E. Court Saturday at 7 p.m. Planning on attending this weekend’s football game? Coming off a 2-0 victory over Central Michigan in which Claudia Muessig scored her team-best fourth goal of the season and Jamie Ward tallied the first goal of her collegiate career, the NIU women’s soccer team begins the week with a trip to Ohio on Thursday afternoon (Oct. 6). The Huskies and Bobcats are currently tied for sixth in the MAC standings at 2-2-0, Ohio won a pair of games this past weekend over Miami and Eastern Michigan. Following Thursday’s matchup, NIU will return home to host Akron on Sunday (Oct. 9) for an Alumni Day doubleheader. Kickoff against the Zips is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the Huskies will honor their returning alumni at halftime.

A pair of conference games await the NIU men’s soccer team this week as they travel to Chicago State on Thursday (Oct. 6) and host Western Michigan on Sunday (Oct. 9). The Huskies bring a 3-4-3 overall record into this week’s action which begins with a meeting against NIU’s newest conference foe in Chicago State, who is beginning its first season as an affiliate member of the MAC for men’s soccer. The trip to Kroc Stadium in Chicago will be the final game of a five-game road trip for the Huskies. NIU then returns home on Sunday afternoon for an Alumni Day doubleheader. The Huskies and Broncos meet at 3:30 p.m., following the Huskie women’s soccer match against Akron.

Women’s Tennis

Friday-Saturday, October 7-8: at Warhawk Fall Invitational, Whitewater, Wisc.

After opening the season at the MSU Spartan Invitational last weekend where 10 Huskies saw their first competition of the year, a small contingent of four players will compete Friday and Saturday at the Warhawk Fall Invitational in Whitewater, Wisconsin. Junior Josefina Trella, sophomore Angelica Ross and freshmen Jenna Horne and McKenna Chudy will be in Whitewater representing NIU. Trella, Horne and Chudy will play for the second straight week while Ross will see her first action of the year. Freshmen Isabella Righi and sophomore Reagan Welch led NIU last week at Michigan State as each won three singles matches.
