Six Wrestlers Named to Academic All-MAC Team
Six members of the Northern Illinois University Huskies wrestling program have earned Academic All-MAC honors as announced by the conference office (April 1).
This is the third straight year the Huskies have had six or more honorees from the MAC.
Blake West (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) receives the honor for the third consecutive year while Jacob Christensen (Durham, Calif./Durham) and Tommy Bennett (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice) are two-time honorees.
A total of 75 athletes from across the league’s 13 teams are featured as Kent State led the way with 12 student-athletes on this year’s team.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests scheduled or completed in the particular sport. First-year students and ANY transfer in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
