NIU’S FRAZIER RECEIVES CONTRACT EXTENSION

Northern Illinois University Vice President and Director of Athletics and Recreation Sean T. Frazier has received a contract extension to remain at the university through June 30, 2027.

Frazier is in his 12th year leading the Huskies’ 17-sport intercollegiate athletics program in 2024-25 and added oversight of NIU’s Department of Recreation in 2021-22. Under his leadership, the Huskies have reached historic milestones competitively, academically and socially, are nationally recognized as a leader on diversity and inclusion and have elevated the student-athlete and the fan experience.

“Under Sean Frazier’s leadership, NIU Athletics and Huskie student-athletes continue to be a point of pride for the entire university,” said NIU President Lisa Freeman. “His experience and ability to navigate change while remaining focused on NIU’s core values and mission is extremely important as the national landscape of intercollegiate athletics continues to evolve.”

Nationally, Frazier currently serves as 2nd vice-president of the National Association for Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and was recently added to the Board of Directors for the Collegiate Women Sports Awards.  He was inducted into the Suffolk County (N.Y.) Sports Hall of Fame in May.

“I’m grateful for the support of President Freeman, university leadership and the NIU community as we guide the Huskies through the rapidly changing landscape of college athletics,” Frazier said. “We will continue to work extremely hard on a daily basis to move NIU Athletics and Recreation, and Northern Illinois University, forward.”

Competitively, Huskie teams have claimed 14 MAC Championships during Frazier’s tenure at NIU, the most MAC titles won under the leadership of any athletic administration in school history. Academically, the Huskies continue to excel, with record-setting grade point averages, graduation rates near 90 percent and a long list of academic honors for teams and student-athletes each year. Fundraising success, facility improvements, beneficial partnerships and an emphasis on community and campus connectivity have all been hallmarks of Frazier’s tenure at NIU.
