The Northern Illinois University women’s basketball team will host the Georgia Southern Eagles on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the NIU Convocation Center in the second game of the MAC-SBC Challenge, announced by the Mid-American Conference on Monday. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. CT.

The Huskies are 6-2 at the Convocation Center this season after a 70-57 win over Central Michigan this past Saturday. NIU is holding opponents to 56.2 points per game in its home contests this year and winning by an average of over 12 points a contest.

The NIU-Georgia Southern game is also a “Scholarship Saturday” with a special scholarship giveaway to one lucky NIU student, provided that 225 or more NIU students attend the game. If the attendance threshold of 225 students is met, one lucky student will be randomly selected to win a $1,500 scholarship. The student must be in attendance when the winner is selected in the fourth quarter.

This is the second matchup all-time between NIU and Georgia Southern. The two teams met in the first round of the 2023 Women’s Basketball Invitational in Lexington, Ky. Georgia Southern is 13-6 on the season and 3-4 in Sun Belt play.

Each MAC and Sun Belt team included in the MAC-SBC Challenge is guaranteed one home game and one road game each season. The MAC-SBC Challenge is currently scheduled for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons. In addition to relevant NET data, geography and frequency of past contests is considered in determining the matchups.

NIU goes on the road this Wednesday, Jan. 24 to take on the Toledo Rockets at 6 p.m. CT. The Huskies are home again on Saturday, Jan. 27 against Akron at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
