NIU Women’s Basketball Adds Trio For 2024-25

Northern Illinois University women’s basketball head coach Lisa Carlsen announced on Tuesday the addition of transfers Kiylynn Dawkins, Marta Hermoso and Maria Serracanta for the 2024-25 season.

“All three of these players add size and experience to our roster,” Carlsen said. “Having players come into our program with international experience is a boost. Kiylynn adds depth and experience at the forward position while being versatile and athletic. Marta can stretch the floor offensively from the forward spot. Maria has great length for a guard and is effective in the open court.”

Dawkins, a 6’1” forward from Beaverton, Ore., comes to NIU after three seasons at Western Oregon. She averaged 10.0 points and 6.6 rebounds per game last season in 21 games, finishing the year second on the team in both scoring and rebounding. Dawkins shot 56 percent from the field as a redshirt-sophomore. On Nov. 30, Dawkins scored a career-high 19 points against Central Washington. She scored in double figures in 10 consecutive games from Nov. 25-Jan. 13 with six double-doubles in that span.

Hermoso, a 6’2” forward from Seville, Spain, played two seasons at McNeese. She played in 21 games off the bench for the Cowgirls in the 2023-24 season, averaging 1.3 points and 0.8 rebounds per game. Hermoso brings international experience to DeKalb, having played two years on the Spanish U16 national team. She was also on the Spanish national team for the 2021 FIBA World Cup.

Serracanta, a 6’0” guard from Sabadell, Spain has played at Mercer for the past two seasons. Last season Serracanta played in 30 games off the bench for the Bears, averaging 1.4 points and 1.1 assists per game. On Dec. 5 she had seven points and six assists in 21 minutes at Georgia Tech. Prior to Mercer Serracanta starred for FC Barcelona Femenino for five years and helped lead the team to a state championship and a pair of runner-up finishes, as well as national top-six finishes.

These three student athletes join Reagan Barkema (Story City, Iowa/Bradley), Makenzie Brass (Shorewood, Ill./Minooka), Lexi Carlsen (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore), Alecia Doyle (Carterville, Ill./SEMO) and Julia “Bubba” Sollberger (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap) as newcomers for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
