Northern Illinois University Director of Track and Field Connie Teaberry will represent USA Track and Field as an assistant coach for Team USA at next month’s World Athletics Championships. Teaberry will be the women’s multis/jumps coach at the championship, which takes place Sept. 13-21, in Tokyo, Japan.

“What an honor,” said Teaberry. “This could not have happened without Mr. Sean T. Frazier allowing me to accept the position to go to Tokyo, Japan, so thank you Mr. Frazier I am forever grateful. I can’t thank the USATF staff enough for believing in me and knowing that I will be of assistance not just to the jumpers but all the US athletes and staff serving wherever needed.

“I don’t take this opportunity lightly. I am appreciative for the chance to assist the personal coaches and athletes on their journeys to medal. I will represent NIU Athletics and Huskie Nation with pride on the global stage and in the same breath get to watch some of the best track and field performances unfold. These athletes work hard through their highs and lows; physical and mental; and still show up daily to perform for their countries, families, coaches, and most of all never giving up on themselves. To witness and aid in this greatness is a blessing and I strive to bring that same energy back to our athletes!”

This will be the second time in less than two years that Teaberry has worked with Team USA at the senior level as she was also the women’s multis/jumps coach at the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.

Teaberry’s international coaching resume also includes the 2019 NACAC (North American, Central American and Caribbean) U23 Championships, where she was the multis/jumps coach for Team USA. She was also slated to be on the Team USA staff at the 2020 World Athletics U20 Championships before it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During her own athletic career, Teaberry twice represented Team USA at the World Championships, competing in the high jump in 1993 in Stuttgart, Germany and in 1995 in Gothenburg, Sweden, as well as at the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, Ga.

Teaberry is entering her 22nd season as head coach of the NIU Track and Field program in 2025-26, her 15th as Director of Track and Field/Cross Country. During her tenure guiding the NIU program, the Huskies have broken 125 school records, won 43 MAC titles, qualified 63 athletes for NCAA regionals and sent seven individuals to the NCAA Championships.
