Fans who present a Vanderbilt ticket at the gate will be given free admittance to the Southern Indiana match on Saturday

The Northern Illinois University volleyball team (5-3, 0-0 MAC) welcomes the Rhode Island Rams (3-7, 0-0 A10) and the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles (0-9, 0-0 OVC) to Victor E. Court this weekend for a tri-match. The Huskies face URI Friday at 6 p.m. on ESPN3 before NIU plays Southern Indiana Saturday at 11 a.m. which can be streamed on NIUTube.

“It’s going to be really important for us, after not being home for the last couple of weeks, to get ourselves back on track here at home and finish the non-conference season on a positive not,” said head volleyball coach Ray Gooden.

NIU enters the tri-match after winning the KC Roos Classic in Kansas City the weekend prior. The Huskies swept both UMKC and Wichita State in straight sets after firing off a team hitting percentage of .282 and a kill-per-set average of 15. The Huskies held their two opponents to just 78 kills over the weekend.

Ella Mihacevich (Brunswick, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) and Francesca Bertucci (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle) were awarded Player of the Week honors by the Mid-American Conference for their efforts in the wins. Mihacevich averaged 12 assists-per-set while Bertucci averaged 5.33 digs-per-set through the two contests.

The only previous meeting between the Huskies and Rhode Island dates back to 1995 when NIU fell in five sets to URI. This will be the first ever meeting between NIU and newly Division One school, Southern Indiana.

Prior to the Rhode Island match, join us for our inaugural Diversity, Equity and Inclusion open house! The event will start at 4 p.m. in the main lobby of the Convocation Center. During the open house, we invite staff, faculty, students and fans to learn more about diversity and inclusion groups/resource centers on campus!
