NIU Returns Home To Face Buffalo Wednesday Night
The Northern Illinois University women’s basketball team returns to the NIU Convocation Center Wednesday night to take on the Buffalo Bulls at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ as well as 94-9 WDKB and the NIU Huskies and Varsity Network apps.
Fans attending Wednesday night’s game are encouraged to wear red to “Red Out” the Convocation Center. Raffles will be held throughout the night for fans wearing red to win prizes. Tickets for Wednesday night’s game are available now at NIUHuskies.com/tickets.
NIU (8-7, 2-2 MAC) looks to bounce back from a loss at Kent State on Sunday night. Senior forward Brooke Stonebraker (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles) led the Huskies with 15 points and nine rebounds. Over her last eight games Stonebraker is averaging 12.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. She is third in the Mid-American Conference in rebounding with 8.1 rebounds per game.
The Huskies are 5-1 at the NIU Convocation Center this season, averaging 70.3 points per game on the home floor. Jayden Marable (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) is putting up 13.7 points per game at home this year, leading NIU for the season with 12.7 points and 4.4 assists per game. The Huskies have not allowed an opponent to score 70 points at the Convocation Center this season.
Buffalo (8-6, 2-2 MAC) comes to DeKalb after a 59-57 home win over Akron on Saturday. The Bulls shot 40.4 percent from the field and held off a Zips fourth quarter rally for the victory. Chellia Watson, the reigning MAC Player of the Week, led Buffalo with 28 points and six assists while adding seven rebounds. She is the MAC’s leading scorer at 23.1 points per game and is second in the league with 2.21 three-pointers per game.
NIU is 20-10 all-time against Buffalo and has won five consecutive games against the Bulls at the Convocation Center.
The Huskies are home on Saturday, Jan. 20 to take on the Central Michigan Chippewas at 1 p.m.
