Northern Illinois University Athletics will celebrate its 125th Anniversary with a commemorative logo, ticket specials, celebrations and more at NIU competitions across all sports in 2024-25.

In honor of the 125th Anniversary, a unique logo was developed honoring NIU’s history, its home city and region, and its tradition. The logo will appear on NIU uniforms, on home courts and fields, and on merchandise.

“NIU has a proud tradition of intercollegiate athletics dating back to the 1899 and we’re excited to celebrate this milestone anniversary with our fans and alumni throughout this year,” said Sean T. Frazier, NIU Vice President and director of Athletics and Recreation.

The Huskie football team is the first to sport the logo in the form of a decal on the team’s helmets for this Saturday’s season opener versus Western Illinois.  The logo will also be visible for future games on Brigham Field, as well as on the NIU Convocation Center and Victor E. Court floors, at the NIU Soccer/Track & Field Complex and on the surfaces of Ralph McKinzie Field at Walt & Janice Owens Park and Mary M. Bell Field, the homes of Huskie baseball and softball, respectively.

The 125th Anniversary ticket deals are already underway as East Side general admission tickets to the NIU football season opener versus Western Illinois this Saturday are on sale for just $12.50 each. Anniversary celebrations will take place during alumni games of NIU men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball this fall with volleyball alumni day set for Friday, September 20 when the Huskies play host to Northwestern on the main floor of the NIU Convocation Center.

Donors to the Huskie Athletic Fund will receive a 12” x 18” garden flag with the 125th Anniversary logo, and additional merchandise bearing the logo will soon be available in the new Victor E. Threads locations.

NIU’s first recorded intercollegiate athletics competitions took place in the fall of 1899.
