On Memorial Day, veterans will be honored on the Ellwood House lawn.

After taking a one-year absence due to COVID-19 safety measures, the Memorial Day Program will resume this year on the Ellwood House lawn.

This year, the event will be held Monday, May 31 at 10 a.m.

Speakers include:

  • DeKalb Mayor Cohen Barnes
  • DeKalb Police Chief David Byrd
  • President of the DeKalb Park District Board of Commissioners
  • DeKalb American Legion Historian Michael Embrey

The Star-Spangled Banner will be sung by Terri Crane Goodman and Ron Lofton will lead the audience in “America the Beautiful” and “This Land is Your Land.” Then, Terri will join Ron to sing the Armed Forces service song.

The Firefighter Highland Guard of DeKalb will perform “Amazing Grace.” You can also expect a rifle salute and the playing of “Taps.”

Local veterans groups will be represented as well.

There will not be a Memorial Day Parade this year, but it will return next year.

This is a wonderful opportunity to honor our veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
