DeKalb police are searching for two suspects who are believed to be armed after they responded to a robbery at the High Meadows apartment complex on Wednesday. According to the Daily Chronicle, police scanner traffic indicated that the suspects stole a black Kia from a parking lot at 1400 West Lincoln Highway around 4:30 p.m. The car headed east from the parking lot. The suspects were described as two males, wearing all black and masks. The incident remains under investigation.


350 Kishwaukee, a solar energy organization, is holding a meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the second-floor meeting room of the DeKalb Public Library. The meeting will allow the public to learn more about residential solar energy systems and how they can reduce energy bills. Students from NIU will also present information on the effects of greenhouse gas emissions.


While some DeKalb residents who live near the ChicagoWest Business Center aren’t thrilled about new development, the city’s Planning and Zoning Commissions supports it. According to the Daily Chronicle, Jerry Krusinski, CEO of Krusinski Construction Company, requested a permit to build a 1.2 million square foot facility for an international food distributor and manufacturer who are looking to locate to DeKalb. The development could bring more than one-thousand jobs by the end of 2020. At Wednesday night’s meeting, residents expressed concerns about noise, traffic, lighting and water retention if the companies come to DeKalb. The permit request will go before the city council for a vote on Monday.


The DeKalb Police Department has created a Community Relations Team to improve relationships with the community. According to a news release from the department, the mission of the team is to use pro-active and problem-oriented policing. They hope that will lead to more trust among residents and will reduce crime. The team will also coordinate and participate in events like National Night Out, public presentations, community awareness campaigns and more.
