Learn blacksmithing at Glidden Homestead
The J.F. Glidden Homestead & Historical Center is offering Intro the Blacksmithing classes starting in April.
The Glidden Homestead, 921 W. Lincoln Highway, is a not-for-profit organization working to preserve the home and barn, both listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Blacksmith classes are held on Sundays, 12-4 pm and cost $75. Pre-registration is required. Proceeds support museum operations.
The museum campus is home to the Phineas Vaughan Blacksmith Shop, named for Vaughan who was instrumental in Glidden’s patent for a machine for making barbed wire. Students will learn coal fire management, safety, basic blacksmithing techniques, decorative twists, and more. Students take home their first forged piece.
