Lead Service Line Replacement Program

The City of DeKalb is very committed to providing safe and clean drinking water to all the residents  in DeKalb.

In August of 2021, the Illinois Lead Service Line Replacement and Notification Act was passed.  This law mandates that every lead service line in Illinois must be replaced. Since 2022, the City  has established its Lead Service Line Replacement Plan with (EEI) Engineering Enterprises Inc.  Their engineering services helped develop a final plan on how the city will facilitate the  replacement of all lead water services within a 2-year time frame.

In 2024, the City of DeKalb was granted a $3.1 million payment of available funds to help replace  all lead service lines in DeKalb. The City will be taking advantage of these available funds  beginning in early June 2025 to start replacements.

The City will be sending out notifications and information regarding lead service line replacements  to residents in late April or early May. These letters will only be going out to residents who currently  have a lead service line.

The City encourages property owners to look at the City’s website to see if their address is listed  for a no cost service line replacement. The list of addresses available for the no-cost replacement  can be viewed here. A resident with a lead service line should reach out to the Water Division at  the contact information below to get signed up on the replacement list.

If you receive a notification letter for a lead service line, please call or mail back contact  information requesting replacement of your water service line.
