Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra Awards Summer Lesson Scholarships to Local Students
The Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra (KSO) has awarded eight summer lesson scholarships to budding musicians in DeKalb and Sycamore, providing financial support for private music instruction. Thanks to the 100+ Women Who Care DeKalb/Sycamore Greatest Impact Award, three DeKalb students and five Sycamore students each received $125 to help cover the cost of summer lessons on their band or orchestra instruments.
Bridging the Gap in Music Education
The scholarships, open to students ages 11–15 with at least one year of school music experience, targeted those not currently enrolled in private lessons. Funds were paid directly to approved local instructors, reducing barriers to high-quality musical training.
“Summer is a critical time for young musicians to build skills without school-year pressures,” said Deb Loitz, KSO Music Education Outreach Chair. “These scholarships reflect our commitment to making music education accessible to all families in our community.”
Community Support Makes It Possible
The program was made possible by a generous grant from 100+ Women Who Care DeKalb/Sycamore, a philanthropic group that pools donations to support local causes.
Looking Ahead
The KSO plans to continue the scholarship program in 2026, with applications opening next spring. Families and teachers are encouraged to follow the orchestra’s website and social media for updates.
