Kish College to offer summer Phlebotomy Technician program

Kishwaukee College will offer its Fast-Track Phlebotomy Technician program from Monday, June 2, to Tuesday, Aug. 15.

The summer program is 11 weeks long and includes in-person lectures, labs and an externship. Lectures and labs are from 2-4 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at Kishwaukee College from June 2-July 24. The externship is in eight-hour shifts on a Monday-Friday schedule from July 28-Aug. 15 at a local hospital.

Phlebotomists are health care professionals trained to collect, transport, handle and process blood and other specimens for laboratory analysis, using venipuncture and micro-collection techniques. Kish’s Fast-Track program prepares students to work in entry-level health care positions and sit for the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Phlebotomy Technician certification examination.

“Kish’s Phlebotomy Technician program is a quick, effective way to explore a career in health care. Qualified phlebotomists play an important role in medicine and are in demand in the local workforce,” said Melissa Gallagher, Coordinator of Short-Term Training.

The program costs $2,250, including textbooks, lab supplies and coordination of the externship. Financial assistance and payment plans are available. Program availability is limited.
