Kanon Woodill Named MAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week
Senior kicker Kanon Woodill (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) of the Northern Illinois University football team has been named Mid-American Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday (Sept. 11).
Woodill, who is a psychology major with a 3.746 GPA, made three field goals, including a 35-yard game-winner with 31 seconds left, and an extra point to help lift the Huskies to a 16-14 victory over Notre Dame. The win was NIU’s 19th all-time “Boneyard” victory, its first over an Associated Press top 10 ranked team and the first by a MAC school over an AP top five ranked opponent. The senior from Plainfield, Ill., also made field goals of 42 and 21 yards in the victory over the Fighting Irish.
This is the second award of the week for Woodill, who was also named the Lou Groza Award Star of the Week.
NIU, who is ranked 25th in this week’s AP Poll, will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 21, when the Huskies host Buffalo at Huskie Stadium in the MAC opener for both teams.
