Huskies Travel to Western Michigan Tuesday

The Northern Illinois University men’s basketball team travels to Kalamazoo, Mich., on Tuesday, Jan. 9, as the Huskies face Western Michigan. Game time at University Arena is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be available on ESPN+ as well as on radio on 94-9 WDKB in DeKalb, the NIU Huskies app and the Varsity Network app.

NIU (6-8, 0-2 MAC) heads to Michigan on the heels of a 78-66 setback at Ohio on Saturday (Jan. 6). The Huskies made a season-high 12 triples against the Bobcats, with Xavier Amos (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) and Philmon Gebrewhit (Boston, Mass./DePaul) each making four. Amos scored a team-high 22 points against Ohio and added a team-best seven rebounds while Gebrewhit scored 14 points.

David Coit (Columbus, N.J./Atlantic Cape CC) had 17 points at Ohio and has scored in double figures in all 14 games this season for the Huskies. Coit leads the Mid-American Conference in both free throw percentage (88.9 percent) and three-point field goals per game (2.93), he ranks 33rd nationally in both categories.

The Broncos bring a 5-9 overall record into Tuesday’s contest, including a 2-0 mark in conference play. Western Michigan has opened the MAC slate with road wins at Miami (83-74) and at Buffalo (82-77). Seth Hubbard is averaging a team-high 16.6 points per game while Javonte Brown is adding 14.8 points per contest for the Broncos. Western Michigan leads the MAC in offensive rebounds, averaging 12.4 per game, which also ranks 64th nationally.

NIU has won the last three-straight in the series against Western Michigan. The Huskies earned a season sweep of Western Michigan last season, marking the first season sweep of the Broncos by NIU since 2005-06.
