Huskies Travel to Toledo Tuesday

The Northern Illinois University men’s basketball team heads on the road Tuesday (Feb. 27) as it begins a stretch of three of the final four games on the road to close the regular season. The Huskies will visit Toledo on Tuesday night, with tipoff set for 6 p.m. CT. The contest with the Rockets will be available on ESPN+, along with 94-9 WDKB in DeKalb, the NIU Huskies app and the Varsity Network app.

Last time out against Ohio, David Coit (Columbus, N.J./Atlantic Cape CC) scored a game-high 27 points. Coit is currently averaging 19.6 points per game, third-best in the Mid-American Conference and 39th nationally. He also leads the league in both free throw percentage (90.1 percent), where he ranks 19th in the country, and three per game (2.96), where he is 27th nationally,

Will Lovings-Watts (Jeffersonville, Ind./Putnam Science) added 10 points on Saturday against the Bobcats. Lovings-Watts is averaging 9.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game over the last seven contests and has played every minute of each of the last five games.

Yanic Konan Niederhauser (Fraschels, Switzerland/Ursping) is averaging 2.13 blocks per contest, best in the MAC and 24th in the country. As a team, NIU is averaging 5.0 blocks per game, which also leads the MAC and ranks 25th nationally.

The Rockets have a 17-10 overall record, including an 11-3 mark in conference play. Toledo fell at Bowling Green, 76-68, last time out (Feb. 23). The Rockets are 11-2 at home this season, including 7-0 in league play. Four players score in double figures for Toledo, led by Ra’Heim Moss at 16.4 points per game. Dante Maddox Jr. adds 15.6 points per contest, Tyler Cochran is scoring 13.8 points per game and Javan Simmons chips in 12.6 points per game.

Toledo ranks 19th nationally in three-point percentage, shooting 37.7 percent as a team. The Rockets are also 36th in field goal percentage, shooting 47.6 percent, and 42nd in free throw percentage, shooting 75.7 percent.

The Rockets won the first meeting of the season, 89-73, in DeKalb (Jan. 23). led the Rockets with 20 points while Coit scored 23 to pace the Huskies.

Following Tuesday’s contest, the Huskies will head back on the road on Saturday, March 2, when they travel to first-place Akron. Game time against the Zips is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT.
