Huskies to Host Falcons in Three-Game Series
NIU will be celebrating the 125th anniversary of Huskie Athletics this weekend as well as welcoming back NIU softball alumni from past years.
In last season’s meetings in Bowling Green, the Huskies went 2-1 against the Falcons. Danielle Stewart (Frankfort, Ill./Lincon-Way East) pitched her first career no-hitter against the Falcons while also recording a home run in that game.
Brianna Pechman (West Chicago, Ill./West Chicago Community), Madison Mathews (Yuma, Ariz./Cibola), and Jenna Turner (Marengo, Ill./Marengo) Turner lead the Huskies at the plate with battings averages of .462, .378, and .376 respectively as well as landing in the top-10 in the MAC. Turner is No. 7 in the MAC for total hits this season at 38. Stewart holds a 4.88 ERA and leads the team with 52 strikeouts while Lily Cassell (La Grange, Ohio/Keystone) has four wins and five complete games for NIU.
The Falcons enter this weekend’s series with conference wins over Kent State and Buffalo. The Falcons are led at the plate by Addie Martin, Hannah Hunt, and Taylor Behrendt, all batting above .337. Martin leads the team with 41 hits and 37 runs, including 12 home runs this season. In the pitchers’ circle, Scarlet Anderson leads the team with 3.84 ERA while Mackenzie Krafcik has recorded six wins this season.
The Huskies swept Ball State in action on Tuesday (April 1) after posting a 2-1 score in the first game before scoring three runs in the second game to win 3-2. Turner has recorded hits in 10 of the last 12 games for NIU and was joined by Alana Powell (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood Academy) and Kayla Estrada (Riverside, Calif./Martin Luther King) as the only Huskies to have hits in both games against the Cardinals.
