Huskies Take on Ohio on Wednesday Night
The Northern Illinois University women’s basketball team travels to Athens, Ohio to take on the Ohio Bobcats at 6 p.m. on Wednesday night.
NIU (7-6, 1-1 MAC) picked up a win against Miami on Saturday, Jan. 6 as the Huskies closed out their five-game homestand. Jayden Marable (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) led the Huskies with 15 points and shot 7-for-10 from the field. Brooke Stonebraker (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles) scored seven points and led the Huskies with eight rebounds. The Huskies shot 7-for-18 from three, and were led by Sidney McCrea (Cedar Rapids, Iowa / Prairie) who was 3-for-6 from the three-point arc.
The defense for NIU shined during the most recent homestand. The Huskies held their five opponents to a combined 53.6 points per game. For the season NIU has held nine opponents under 70 points.
The Huskies are averaging 67.5 points per game which puts NIU fourth in the MAC. NIU leads the MAC in three-point attempts with 25.6 per game and is second with 8.6 made threes per game. The Huskies are allowing 65.0 points per game this season which is also fourth best in the league. The Huskies are shooting 38.3 from the field over the course of the season.
The Ohio Bobcats (4-8, 1-1 MAC) dropped their last game on Sunday against Kent State by a score of 92-63. Madi Mace led the Bobcats with 16 points off the bench against the Golden Flashes. Ohio had won their previous matchup with Akron 67-58 to open conference play on Jan. 3. Ohio is led by Jaya McClure in points with 14.6 per game and in assists with 3.6 per game.
After Wednesday’s matchup the Huskies will prepare to take on Kent State at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 14 on the road.
