The Northern Illinois University men’s tennis team took down Toledo 4-3 inside the Nelson Tennis Center on Saturday.

“Before the match we talked about the importance of showing up in life both in tennis and off the court,” head coach René Vidal said.” “That is exactly what we did today to get the win. The guys brought their best effort and played their hearts out and really deserved the win. I couldn’t be more proud of our guys.”

The Huskies opened up the match by taking the doubles point.

Saul Berdullas (Pamplona, Spain) and Sam Klein (Elk Grove, Wis./Brookfield East) earned a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Pratyaksh LNU (Delhi, India.) and Chiao Bo Suo Nan (Taipei, Taiwan) clinched the doubles point for NIU with a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles.

“Everybody impressed me from start to finish, the energy was electric,” Vidal said. “The guys deserved the best, they have worked hard and practice and deserves the win today.”

In singles play Iker Gaztambide Arrastia (Santiago de Compostela, Spain) took down Poonthong Komolpisut at No. 1 singles 6-3 to earn the Huskies second point.

Federico Scotuzzi (Bergamo, Italy/North Alabama got the Huskies third point in a tight three set match. Scotuzzi came from behind to seal the win at No. 3 singles 2-6, 6-3, 5-4 RET.

With the dual at 3-2 Pratyaksh LNU was able to clinch the victory for NIU. Pratyaksh took the first set 6-3 before a 0-6 setback in the second set. He then bounced back and put Joshua Mackey away 6-3 in the third set at No. 5 singles to clinch the Huskie victory.

The victory is the Huskies final home match of 2025. NIU will close out the season next week with road duals against Ball State on Thursday and Western Michigan on Saturday. Both duals are set for 12 p.m. starts.
