Huskies Post New Season High On Floor at MAC Championships

The Northern Illinois University gymnastics team set a new season high on floor with a 49.175 and Ellery Werner earned third place on beam to highlight the Huskies day at the Mid-American Conference Championships on Saturday.

The Huskies set a new season high of 49.175 on floor. Isabella Ross (Cary, N.C./Green Level), Kiera O’Shea (Norridge, Ill./Ridgewood) and Alana Anderson (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) all scored 9.850’s on the floor to lead the way for NIU. Mikayla Brown (Suwannee, Ga./Peachtree Ridge) scored a 9.825 and Dawsyn Sallee (Versailles, Ky./Woodford County) scored a 9.800. The impressive score of 49.175 beat out the Huskies previous season high of 49.000 on March 2.

“We looked great on floor,” head coach Nita Teague said. “It was our best run of the year and it was a great place to show it off.”

On beam, Ellery Werner (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) led the way for NIU with a 9.825 to earn third place overall.

“She settled in and was great today,” Teague said. “I was proud of her for having that performance in this meet and this venue.”

Overall, the Huskies scored 192.925 to earn sixth place in the MAC Championships

The Huskies opened the meet on bars. NIU was led by Natalia Kraus (Fairport, N.Y./Southern Connecticut with a 9.700 and Aliyah Kelly (Manteno, Ill./Manteno) with a 9.650. O’Shea added a 9.450 as the Huskies scored a 46.700 on bars.

NIU then moved to beam for the second rotation. Werner led the Huskies on the beam with a 9.825. Kiera O’Shea added a 9.725 as the Huskies scored a 48.425 on the second event.

After the impressive third rotation the Huskies shifted to the vault for the final rotation. O’Shea led the way for NIU as she earned a 9.775. Sallee scored a 9.750 while Brown and Kelly scored 9.700’s. The Huskies posted a 48.575 on the final event.

Kelly Earned fifth place in the all-around with a 38.775.

The Huskies now await NCAA Regional Qualifier Selection at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 24.
