Huskies Host Eastern Michigan For “Cram The Convo” Saturday
The Northern Illinois University women’s basketball team starts a stretch of three of its next four games at home on Saturday, hosting Eastern Michigan at 1 p.m. in the first game of the “Cram The Convo” doubleheader at the NIU Convocation Center.

NIU women’s basketball will be honoring cancer patients, survivors and caregivers in the annual Play 4 Kay Pink Game in partnership with the Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital Cancer Center. Fans in attendance can stop by the marketing table and receive a pink “I Fight For” lunch tote while supplies last. The Huskies look to rebound from a 74-70 loss at Ohio Wednesday night. NIU made 10 three-pointers in the game and shot 38.5 percent from the field. Junior guard Alecia Doyle (Carterville, Ill./SEMO) led five Huskies in double figure scoring with 21 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. It was her third 20-point effort in the last four games and fifth of the season.
Lexi Carlsen (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) and Brooke Stonebraker (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles) each had 13 points with Stonebraker adding five rebounds. Carlsen made four three-pointers in the game, her sixth game this season with at least four. The freshman guard leads the Mid-American Conference in three-point percentage at 43.1 percent which puts her 25th in the country. She is one of three freshmen in Division I to have at least 50 three-point makes this season while also shooting over 40 percent from the arc.
Chelby Koker (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) and Brooke Blumenfeld (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) both had 10 points at Ohio. Koker also had a game-high five assists. She was named both MAC Co-Player of the Week and the MAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Week this week. Koker is the third Huskie to be named MAC Player of the Week this week, joining Doyle and Stonebraker.
NIU won the first meeting at Eastern Michigan this season 78-70 on Jan. 22. The Huskies shot over 50 percent from the field in erasing a 13-point deficit in the second quarter. Koker led all players in the game with 23 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Sisi Eleko and Olivia Westphal both had 17 points for Eastern Michigan. The Eagles are 1-23 and 0-13 in the MAC after a 74-62 loss to Central Michigan on Wednesday. Eleko leads Eastern Michigan with 18.2 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.
