Huskies Fall to Wisconsin, Host Doubleheader on Saturday
The Northern Illinois University women’s tennis team lost to Wisconsin, 7-0, at home on Friday evening. The match against the Badgers is the 2026 dual season opener and first of three this weekend for the Huskies.
Wisconsin (1-0) earned the doubles point by winning on courts one and three by scores of 6-1 and 6-2. The match on court two involving Isabella Righi / Lucia Yecora was unfinished. The duo recorded three wins last weekend at the Northwestern Invitational.
NIU (0-1) kept the matches competitive moving into singles action. Yecora pushed Wisconsin’s Kaede Usui to three sets before falling 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. Senior Nataly Ninova’s match against Karolina Jacobson was one of the closest of the day as Jacobson held off Ninova 7-6, 6-4.
Freshman Rebeca Garcia Miralles had the final match of the evening, falling to Maya Bordereau 6-4, 6-3.
The Huskies host Missouri (0-1) and Chicago State (0-1) on Saturday, beginning with Missouri at 9 a.m. and Chicago State at 6 p.m. Admission to the Nelson Tennis Center at Chick Evans Field House is free.
Missouri will take on Chicago State at 1 p.m.
