94.9 WDKB presented this week’s #HometownHero award to:

Lynette Spencer

Thanks to the DeKalb Chamber for providing this bio about Lynette:

Lynette is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has worked in a variety of social work settings including outpatient counseling, inpatient hospitalization, and emergency department crisis intervention. In 2010, Lynette sensed that traditional office-based counseling didn’t quite meet the needs of all her clients so she founded, and continues to serve as Executive Director of Adventure Works of DeKalb County. Adventure Works utilizes nature & adventure therapy to provide mental health services to youth and their families. It is the first-ever nonprofit, community-based, outdoor behavioral healthcare (OBH) organization to be nationally accredited.

Lynette thrives on being involved in her community, holding leadership positions with many local and national organizations including the DeKalb County Nonprofit Partnership, DeKalb County’s Trauma Informed Committee, the Therapeutic Adventure Professionals Group for the Association of Experiential Education, and she is currently serving as the first female chairperson of the Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare Council.

Lynette is one of the incredible finalists for the ATHENA Awards this year. Tune into the virtual ceremony on Tues Oct 20th at 6 PM on the DeKalb Chamber’s Facebook page.
