At only 13 years old, Laynee went above and beyond to help her neighbors at the St. Alban’s Green Apartment Complex in Sycamore. When she heard the fire alarms go off on July 27th, she and her brother Kameron worked fast to alert and evacuate their family. Laynee immediately took off down the hall pounding on doors on her way to help rescue their elderly neighbor Sonja Jensen – who they call “Dodie.” Laynee grabbed Dodie’s medication and oxygen tank and wheeled her out of the building to safety. After the fire, Laynee volunteered with the Red Cross so she could continue helping her neighbors. Laynee just started 8th grade at Sycamore Middle School and she says she already plans on becoming a firefighter. You are amazing, Laynee!
